A Bold Move: Zahid's Take on MIC's Future
The future of Barisan Nasional (BN) hangs in the balance, and its chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has a surprising stance.
In a recent development, Zahid has expressed his willingness to respect and accept any decision made by the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) regarding its future within the BN coalition. This statement comes after intense debates at MIC's annual general meeting, where delegates unanimously agreed to grant the central working committee (CWC) and party president SA Vigneswaran the power to decide on their coalition's fate.
Zahid emphasized his non-interference stance, stating, "I've been following their assembly discussions closely, and I respect the MIC's autonomy. We're ready to embrace whatever decision they make."
But here's where it gets controversial... Zahid also supported the idea of post-election talks between BN and MIC, scheduled for November 29th, to clarify MIC's role in the coalition. This move has sparked debates among political analysts and enthusiasts.
Last Sunday, MIC delegates passed motions empowering their leadership to determine the party's future, including the option to leave BN. Vigneswaran confirmed this unanimous decision, adding that MIC would only consider joining another coalition if they decide to leave BN.
And this is the part most people miss... MIC, along with MCA and Umno, is a founding member of the pre-independence Alliance Party, which later transformed into BN in 1973. So, any decision to leave BN would be a significant shift in Malaysian political history.
So, what's your take on this? Do you think MIC should stay or go? Share your thoughts in the comments below! We'd love to hear your opinions on this controversial topic.
